Email Design Systems & High-Velocity
Campaign Execution for Ace Hardware
Role: Digital Designer
Ace Hardware’s marketing team needed high-volume, brand-consistent email campaigns delivered quickly across multiple product categories and partner brands. Emails had to stay on-brand, ADA-aware, and production-ready, while accommodating frequent last-minute content changes and tight deadlines. Emails were a critical customer touchpoint, requiring strong information hierarchy, modular systems, and rapid iteration under tight timelines.
Problem
The email channel needed to support frequent campaign launches while maintaining brand consistency, accessibility standards, and clarity for a wide customer base. Designs had to scale across categories, promotions, and partners without sacrificing usability or visual coherence.
Key Challenges
High production volume (2–4 emails per day)
Tight turnaround times
Multiple campaign categories and partners
Strict brand and accessibility requirements
Need for reusable, scalable templates
Solution
Co-Designed a modular email template system paired with high-velocity campaign execution, enabling marketing teams to rapidly launch brand-consistent emails across Ace’s Best Brands without sacrificing quality or accessibility.
What This Unlocked:
Faster turnaround through reusable, flexible layouts
Consistent hierarchy and branding across campaigns
Reduced rework despite frequent content swaps
The email hero template was built with reusable modules including product grids, promotional callouts, CTAs, and category sections — enabling rapid content swaps without breaking hierarchy or layout integrity.

Consistent hierarchy and CTA placement preserved
My Role
I designed scalable email templates and final campaign executions, collaborating closely with marketing managers, copywriters, and production teams to deliver 2–4 emails per day across Ace’s Best Brands — including YETI campaigns.
Responsibilities included:
Email template design & modular systems
Campaign-specific visual design
Accessibility-aware layout decisions
Rapid iteration under tight timelines
Cross-functional collaboration with marketing & production teams
My Approach
1. Template-First Design for Speed & Consistency
I worked within Ace’s established brand system to design reusable email templates that allowed teams to swap content efficiently while preserving hierarchy, spacing, and visual rhythm.
2. High-Velocity Campaign Execution
Using the templates as a foundation, I created polished final designs for daily campaigns — balancing promotional urgency with clarity, scannability, and visual hierarchy.
3. Accessibility & Readability
Layouts were designed with clear CTA contrast, legible typography, and logical reading order, supporting accessibility best practices within email constraints.
Modular Email System
To support speed and consistency, emails were designed using modular components that could be recombined across campaigns.
Key Design Principles
Clear visual hierarchy for rapid scanning
Reusable modules (headers, product grids, CTAs, disclosures)
Consistent spacing and typography for readability
Predictable interaction patterns to reduce cognitive load
Information Hierarchy & Usability
Each email was designed to guide users from headline to CTA efficiently, accounting for real-world behaviors like quick scanning and mobile-first consumption.
Interaction considerations
Strong headline and subhead structure
Clear product groupings by category
Prominent, accessible calls to action
Creative Expression Within a Stable System
Modular template creates a reliable structure that frees designers to focus on storytelling, motion, and visual emphasis without reinventing layouts or breaking hierarchy.
Rewards messaging is integrated into the system rather than treated as an afterthought, allowing designers to surface app benefits while maintaining clear campaign goals.
Speed, Scale & Execution
This role required balancing quality with velocity. Designing multiple emails daily demanded efficient workflows, strong system knowledge, and confident decision-making.
What enabled speed
Deep familiarity with the design system
Reusable templates and components
Clear campaign patterns across categories
Fast iteration without sacrificing clarity
Outcomes
Successfully supported high-volume national email campaigns
Delivered consistent, accessible email experiences across categories
Enabled rapid campaign execution through reusable templates
Contributed to a scalable system supporting ongoing marketing needs
Reflections & Learnings
This work reinforced the importance of systems thinking in fast-paced environments. Designing for reuse, clarity, and accessibility made it possible to move quickly without compromising user experience. This environment strengthened my ability to design thoughtfully under pressure while maintaining consistency at scale.
Key Takeaways
Modular systems enable both speed and quality
Clear hierarchy is essential in content-dense experiences
Accessibility scales when built into templates, not added later
